of Advisors
Cynthia Pekow, DVM
Cindy
Pekow lives near Seattle with her husband (whom she first met in
Amigos, when she was 16) and family. She credits her time with Amigos
as a pivotal growth experience. Among the benefits gained from Amigos
was solidifying her ability to communicate in Spanish, which has
opened doors to friendships, understanding, and numerous opportunities
for education travel, and life-enriching experiences. With her family,
and for work, Cindy enjoys travel, particularly to Latin America.
After receiving her veterinary degree in 1984, Cindy practiced small
animal medicine for several years before deciding to return to school
to specialize in laboratory animal care. She is employed by the
Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, and has a
clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Comparative Medicine
at the University of Washington.
In 2003 Pekow was president of the American Association for Laboratory
Animal Science, an 11,000+ member association with a mission of
advancing laboratory animal science to benefit people and animals.
