The Foundation for Amigos de las Américas
was established in December
2003 as an independent 501 (c)(3) organization to support the youth
leadership and sustainable development work of Amigos de las Américas
(AMIGOS). The dream of creating the Foundation was born out of the
desire to take full advantage of the opportunities available to AMIGOS
to make a difference in both the lives of youth volunteers and of
Latin American communities. Working together with alumni, parents,
chapters, and volunteers, the Foundation will enable AMIGOS to
strengthen the volunteer experience, enhance relationships with Latin
American communities and partner agencies, and expand the reach of the
AMIGOS mission.
This effort comes at a critical juncture in the life of AMIGOS as its
Board has just adopted an ambitious ten year plan which will require
the support of outside capital. This strategic plan recognizes the
strength of the 40-year-old legacy of AMIGOS and sets goals for the
future. These include doubling the number of annual volunteers,
enhancing the diversity of volunteers and other constituents
throughout the Americas, and further developing the excellence of
AMIGOS’ program offerings.
